The thing that matters is because of Mind: 

Presently we will take up our x and y and show they are one. We have indicated how what we call the outside world is x + mind, and the inward world y + mind; x and y are the two amounts obscure and mysterious. All distinction is because of time, space, and causation. These are the constituent components of the brain. No attitude is conceivable without them. You can never think without time, you can never envision anything without space, and you can never have anything without causation. These are the types of the brain. Remove them, and the mind itself does not exist. All distinction is, in this way, because of the psyche. As per Vedanta, it is the brain, its structures, that have restricted x and y evidently and caused them to show up as outside and inner universes. Be that as it may, x and y, being both past the brain, are without a distinction and consequently one. We can't ascribe any quality to them since characteristics are conceived of the psyche. That which is qualityless must be one; x is without characteristics, it just takes characteristics of the brain does as well; y; hence these x and y are one.
